What: PlantCheck THC Quick Test Kit
Purchased From: Amazon
Cost – $47.95
The rating: DO NOT BUY
The Premise: This test kit advertises the ability to “quickly and accurately test the THC potency of cannabis flower, oils, concentrates and many edibles in under 10 minutes.”
What I tested: Cannabis Infusion in MCT oil, extracted via the Levo.
Why it Failed:
There are several reasons, which I will try to enumerate…
The reality is the test is neither precise nor accurate, and relies on color change to indicate concentration that you must be a color expert to correctly interpret. A shade of light yellow means something different than a shade of medium light yellow means something different than medium light yellow green and the colors are not distinct enough to be useful.
Further, the supplied ‘pipette’ is clear plastic with no graduations aside from, you guessed it, 1ml and this is a small, clear line on a small, clear piece of plastic. Drawing consistent sample volumes is practically impossible.
In summary, save your $50 unless you just need a cheap, relative indicator of thc presence and a ‘this batch is stronger than that batch by some amount’ level of accuracy and precision. Don’t expect to determine the amount one batch is stronger than the other by, the test just isn’t capable.
Whether the results are repeatable or not I can’t say – I wasn’t about to pay the money to find out, but this is another unknown and potential drawback to this kit.
